Wind Racers Club Aruba: Developing the Next Generation of Windsurfing Champions

The Wind Racers Club Aruba (WRCA) is making waves at Fishermen’s Huts, bringing together young windsurfing enthusiasts every Sunday morning. The club, originally founded in 1986, was recently revitalized by a group of dedicated parents who wanted to introduce their passion for windsurfing to the next generation.

A Thriving Community for Young Windsurfers

WRCA hosts weekly races in three categories:

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Young Guns (advanced level)

These categories mirror the levels used on Blue Highway, Aruba’s famous long-distance windsurfing strip. The club’s goal is to make windsurfing as popular among kids as football or baseball, providing a structured, fun, and competitive environment.

An Inspiring Presence: Sara-Quita Offringa

Last Sunday’s races were extra special, as 25-time Freestyle World Windsurfing Champion Sara-Quita Offringa joined to cheer on young racers and share her love for the sport. Her presence was a huge motivation for the kids, reinforcing WRCA’s mission to develop Aruba’s next generation of windsurfing champions.

How to Join the WRCA

  • Age Requirement: 8 years or older
  • What to Bring: Rash guard, sunscreen, water shoes (optional)
  • Equipment Provided: All windsurfing gear is included
  • Cost: AWG 100 per month (AWG 25 per session)

WRCA is a non-commercial initiative focused purely on youth development in windsurfing. It provides kids with an opportunity to learn, train, and compete while embracing Aruba’s ocean culture.

  • Where: Next to Vela at Fishermen’s Huts

A Legacy of Windsurfing Excellence

Wind Racers Club Aruba WRCA was first established in 1986, coinciding with the launch of Aruba’s first international Hi-Winds competition, now in its 35th+ edition. The club initially held races on Eagle Beach and Palm Beach, but later settled at Fishermen’s Huts—now recognized as the island’s top windsurfing location.

The club represents a community of passionate windsurfers, committed to taking their love for the sport to the next level. Whether slicing through the waves or supporting from the shore, WRCA provides an exciting experience for both athletes and spectators.
