Over the past two years, KIA has undergone significant restructuring to enhance its ability to provide essential services. This includes the introduction of various programs designed to help inmates acquire new skills through training and community work initiatives. Among the notable advancements is the renewal of medical services and the introduction of the “Youturn Methodology,” a youth rehabilitation approach widely used in Dutch correctional facilities.

However, despite these efforts, the need for a new correctional facility remains a critical priority due to the current building’s limitations. The Aruban government is actively working on developing a business case to secure financing for this project in collaboration with the Netherlands.
