Classical, Contemporary and Children’s Poetry on Display
The National Library of Aruba is marking its 75th anniversary with a captivating poetry exhibition at its Oranjestad location. This event showcases the beauty of Papiamento, featuring a curated selection of poems by classical, contemporary, and children’s poets. Initially launched five years ago with classical works, the exhibition has since expanded to include modern poetry and verses for younger readers.
A Glimpse into Aruba’s Rich Cultural Expressions
Highlighted poets include Belén Kock-Marchena, Denis Henriquez, Frenky Geerman, Frida Winklaar Domacasse, Gina Henriquez, Joe J. L. Fortin, and more. Stanzas from celebrated poets like Hubert Booi and Nydia Ecury, along with verses from well-known songwriters such as Padu Lampe, also grace the library’s windows, inviting the public to experience Aruba’s rich literary traditions.
Library Renovation and New Artistic Installations
In celebration of this milestone, the library has undergone significant renovations, including a stunning mural by local artist Robby Solognier. The exhibition is an invitation to both residents and visitors to immerse themselves in Aruba’s cultural and literary heritage.
