Boardwalk Aruba Sports Team Pushes Limits in Mountain Bike Relay and Marathon

In May and June 2025, Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba proudly took part in two major island sporting events—the thrilling 12 Hours of Aruba mountain bike relay and the community-driven KLM Aruba Marathon. From biking through nature trails to championing inclusivity, the Boardwalk Aruba sports team proved that health, teamwork, and purpose are at the core of their values.

Boardwalk Dominates the 12-Hour Aruba MTB Relay

12 Team Members, 12 Hours, 250 Cyclists

The 12 Hours of Aruba, a grueling non-stop mountain biking relay, saw over 250 participants take on the challenge in six-member teams riding from noon to midnight. Held annually since 2015, this signature event blends endurance with scenic outdoor trails.

Boardwalk Boutique Hotel went all in with two teams—one male and one female—totaling 12 cyclists. Not only did they ride the full 12 hours, but they also brought the Boardwalk spirit with them, sponsoring the event at Gold level and handing out fresh fruit popsicles to riders for a refreshing boost.

“Our number one reason for participating is to have fun and enjoy Aruba’s beautiful outdoors,” shared Stephanie Rooijakkers, co-owner of Boardwalk. “It’s the perfect match for our love of nature, active lifestyles, and supporting local initiatives.”

Supporting Aruba’s Inclusive Sports Movement

Boardwalk also extended its support to Beyond Sports Limits, a local foundation that empowers people with disabilities through sport. During the 2025 KLM Aruba Marathon, Boardwalk sponsored athlete Luuk Loo, who pushed Disjondrick Jacobs in a wheelchair for the full marathon distance.

Starting at 3:00 AM, the duo crossed the finish line in just under 4 hours, showcasing what’s possible when determination and support align. Boardwalk’s donation of 1,000 AWG helped fund the initiative, raising awareness and breaking down barriers for athletes with disabilities.

“It’s not just about sport—it’s about changing lives,” said a Boardwalk spokesperson. “We are incredibly proud of Luuk and Disjondrick’s achievement.”

Team Building and Healthy Living in Motion

On June 7, twelve Boardwalk team members from various departments—including Front Desk, Engineering, Maintenance, Accounting, HR, and The Coco Café—took part in the KLM Aruba Marathon’s 5K Fun Run and Walk.

The results were impressive:

  • All team members finished the 5K
  • Most completed it in under 30 minutes
  • Segundo Muñoz Chiki clocked the fastest team time at 24:56

This group effort emphasized wellness, team bonding, and personal motivation—key values supported by Boardwalk Boutique Hotel in both work and play.
