Aruba Tourism Snapshot: April 2025 Shows Growth Across Key Metrics

Aruba continues its upward trend in travel and tourism for 2025, with the latest data from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) revealing a solid increase in visitor arrivals, overnight stays, and tourism-related spending for the month of April. The island’s performance, especially among visitors from North and South America, highlights the resilience and growing appeal of Aruba as a premier Caribbean destination.

Significant Growth in Stay-over Arrivals

In April 2025, Aruba welcomed a total of 126,419 stay-over visitors, a 4.3% increase compared to 121,215 in April 2024. This growth was driven largely by increases from Argentina (+93.3%), Brazil (+50.3%), and Colombia (+24.3%). The United States maintained the lion’s share with 74.8% of market share, rising slightly by 0.3%.

North and South America Lead the Way

Visitors from North America comprised 79.4% of arrivals, while South America made up 13.4%, reflecting increasing interest from regional markets like Uruguay (+69.7%) and Paraguay (+141.4%).

Overnight Stays and Accommodation Trends

The total number of overnight stays (or “nights”) reached 804,986, a 2.1% increase from the previous year. The most notable growth was seen in “Other” accommodations (+10.1%), suggesting a rise in alternative stays such as short-term vacation rentals.

Timeshare and All-Inclusive Preferences Shift

  • All-inclusive stays saw a decline of 7.2%
  • Timeshare accommodations fell by 4.0%
  • Meanwhile, European Plan (EP) hotels experienced 4.5% growth

This shift reflects evolving traveler preferences, especially among younger and high-income groups seeking flexibility and more localized experiences.

Cruise Tourism Rebounds Despite Challenges

April also brought promising results for Aruba’s cruise sector. The island received 88,040 cruise passengers, exceeding the forecasted 83,920 despite weather-related cancellations such as the AIDA Bella.

More Cruise Ships, Fewer Passengers

Although passenger numbers were down 14.5% compared to 2024, the number of cruise calls increased to 34, surpassing the planned 30. The APA expects 910,174 cruise passengers for 2025, up from 897,274 in 2024.

Spending Power and Visitor Behavior Insights

The ATA’s latest airport survey, conducted with over 3,000 departing travelers, revealed an average spend of $325 per person per day. Notably:

  • Hotel and resort guests spend the most at $416/day
  • Timeshare visitors are the most budget-conscious at $241/day
  • Affluent travelers (HHI $150k+) spend significantly more than others

Generational & Income-Based Insights

  • Gen X and Baby Boomers make up over 50% of visitors
  • High-income travelers account for nearly 45% of first-time visitors

These trends highlight a strong base of affluent, experience-seeking travelers driving tourism revenue.

Occupancy and Average Daily Rate (ADR)

April 2025 recorded a 59% average occupancy rate, slightly up from 57% in 2024. The ADR (Average Daily Rate) also rose from $294 to $305, confirming that Aruba remains a high-value destination.

Tourism Credits on the Rise

Reclassified by the Central Bank of Aruba, tourism receipts are now tracked as Tourism Credits. Q1–Q3 2024 credits reached Afl. 4,030.9 million, marking a 16% increase over the same period in 2023. This metric reflects both increased spending and better reporting under the new accounting standards.
