Paws Uni Aruba’s “Cat Extravaganza Weekend” a Resounding Success

Paws Uni Aruba’s “Cat Extravaganza Weekend” successfully tackled stray cat overpopulation through free sterilization services in Aruba.

They recently held a successful “Cat Extravaganza Weekend,” marking another significant step in their ongoing cat sterilization campaign across Aruba. The event is part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing the growing problem of stray dogs and cats on the island, with 12 foundations joining forces to combat the issue through sterilization efforts.

Tackling Stray Cat Overpopulation in Aruba

Every day, social media platforms are flooded with posts about stray cats and dogs in need of help. Many people reach out to local animal foundations for assistance, but unfortunately, these organizations are often overwhelmed. To address the issue, Luna Foundation Aruba initiated the Paws Uni Aruba campaign, bringing together 11 other foundations to reduce the overpopulation of stray animals through targeted sterilization drives across various neighborhoods in Aruba.

The campaign kicked off in Madiki, where Paws Uni Aruba focused their initial efforts. Over the past weekend, they held the “Cat Extravaganza Weekend” specifically targeting cats in the Madiki neighborhood and its surroundings. Volunteers from Paws Uni Aruba shared numerous photos of their work on the campaign’s Facebook page, showcasing the impact of their efforts.

Sterilization Campaign Expands Across Aruba

Since the beginning of August, Paws Uni Aruba has been actively conducting weekend sterilization campaigns. The initiative started at the Centro di Bario Playa Pabao, where residents from Madiki and nearby areas were invited to bring their pets for free sterilization.

During the “Cat Extravaganza Weekend,” Paws Uni Aruba operated from the VSH Veterinary Specialty Hospital Aruba in Ponton, recognizing that the sterilization and post-operative care for cats require a more delicate approach compared to dogs. Although stray dogs are more visible, the issue with stray cats is more pressing, as they reproduce faster and can have kittens every three months.

Volunteers worked tirelessly from Friday, searching for stray cats and reaching out to owners who couldn’t afford to sterilize their pets. What sets Paws Uni Aruba apart is that their campaign goes beyond just sterilization; they offer a full package of care for the animals. Before the operations began, volunteers visited the Madiki neighborhood to speak with pet owners, provide general pet care information, and raise awareness about responsible pet ownership.
