New U.S. Consul General Appointed for Curaçao and Dutch Caribbean

The U.S. Consulate General in Curaçao has officially announced the arrival of John McNamara as the new Consul General and Chief of Mission for Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten. McNamara brings a wealth of experience from various international assignments, further strengthening diplomatic relations in the region.

John McNamara’s Extensive Diplomatic Experience

Before his new role as U.S. Consul General in Curaçao, McNamara served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru. His diplomatic career spans several significant assignments, including his time at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia, where he played a crucial role as Political Advisor during the final two years of the Colombian government’s peace negotiations with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

McNamara’s experience also includes posts in Babylon, Iraq, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, and two tours in Afghanistan, where he contributed to Provincial Reconstruction Teams in Kandahar and served at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul.

McNamara’s Background and Qualifications

John McNamara holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Arts from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is also fluent in Spanish, making him well-equipped to manage relations within the Dutch Caribbean and with the Spanish-speaking nations of Latin America.

McNamara has served in various roles at the U.S. Department of State, including teaching at the National Defense University and working as a Senior Desk Officer for Venezuela. His extensive diplomatic portfolio makes him a strong fit for his new responsibilities in the Dutch Caribbean.
