As the new school year begins, the DOEN union has raised urgent concerns about education sector issues in Aruba, calling for immediate action.
DOEN Union Warns of Pressing Problems in the Education Sector
DOEN plans to provide more detailed information soon regarding the specific reasons for this focus. In addition, the union remains committed to addressing long-standing issues, such as the 12% salary reduction still affecting teachers, low wages, and overall working conditions. The union has also announced its participation in the GOA to strengthen the fight for better labor conditions.
Concerns Over Working Conditions and Insufficient Teaching Hours
With the start of the new school year, the DOEN union has issued a stark warning regarding pressing issues within the education sector that require immediate attention. The union has expressed grave concerns about the current annual work standards, inadequate teaching hours, and precarious working conditions, particularly the climate and temperature in classrooms.
Focus on Staff Hired During 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 School Years
The union has also highlighted the need for immediate action regarding the 27-hour work schedule for VSBO and the vacation hours for non-teaching staff. This year’s academic focus will also extend to employees who began during the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 school years, as well as to school leaders such as principals, assistant principals, rectors, co-rectors, and classroom assistants.
