Introducing the Purchasing Power Model in Aruba

ORANJESTAD – The Council of Ministers has officially approved a new tool called the “Koopkrachtmodel” a Purchasing power model to evaluate how government policies impact purchasing power in Aruba.

Understanding the Need for a Purchasing Power Model

The initiative for the Koopkrachtmodel began in January 2024. Minister of Economic Affairs Geoffrey Wever allocated budget funds to develop the Koopkrachtmodel, recognizing the need for this essential tool in government operations. Now, all government departments must consider how their management decisions could influence purchasing power.

Power Model PresentationDevelopment and Implementation of the Koopkrachtmodel

The Economic Bureau of Amsterdam designed the Koopkrachtmodel in 2024, presenting it to the Parliament of Aruba, the Council of Ministers, and various commercial guilds. The Department of Economic Affairs, Trade, and Industry (DAECI) will manage and execute this new purchasing power model. Additionally, DAECI will integrate it with the existing macroeconomic model MARUBA to enhance its effectiveness.

Connecting Economic Development and Purchasing Power

Recognizing the link between economic development, purchasing power, and poverty, the Council of Ministers has expanded the MacroModel Commission to include the Department of Social Affairs. This collaborative effort aims to leverage the Koopkrachtmodel as a management tool that fosters greater transparency in policy implementation.
