Seniors in Aruba receiving their free flu vaccine

Free Flu Vaccine Available for Seniors in Aruba Starting September 26, 2024

Starting September 26, 2024, the free flu vaccine will be available to adults aged 60 and over in Aruba. The flu shot aims to protect high-risk individuals from serious illness caused by influenza. Seniors can easily access this service by visiting the Department of Health (DVG) without needing a doctor’s prescription.

Free Flu Vaccine for Seniors and High-Risk Groups

From September 26, 2024, seniors aged 60 and above can receive the free flu vaccine without a prescription. This important vaccination helps protect the elderly, a group particularly vulnerable to the flu. Seniors simply need to visit the Infectious Diseases section of the Department of Health (DVG) with their AZV card.

For those seniors living in care institutions, the vaccine will be administered on-site, making the process even more accessible for this high-risk group.

Who Else Qualifies for the Free Flu Vaccine?

In addition to seniors, individuals under 60 with chronic health conditions or weakened immune systems are also eligible for the free flu vaccine. However, unlike seniors, these individuals must first obtain a prescription from their family doctor before visiting DVG for their shot. Once they have their prescription, they can receive their vaccine free of charge by bringing their AZV card and doctor’s note.

Paid Flu Vaccines for the General Public

For individuals who are under 60, do not have a chronic illness, but wish to receive the flu vaccine, the service is still available at a cost of AWG 20. Appointments can be made between Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 11:45 am and 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. To schedule an appointment, contact the Infectious Diseases section at 5224239 or 5224241.
