The first meeting of Platform 1 for the 2024-2025 school year recently took place in Oranjestad. This crucial gathering focused on various significant topics related to education welfare in Aruba, including teacher development and upcoming projects to enhance the educational landscape.

Strengthening Education Welfare in Aruba

Platform 1, which comprises the Department of Education Aruba (DEA), ten school boards, and Minister of Education and Sport Endy Croes, came together to discuss the pressing concerns regarding the education system. The key focus of the meeting was improving education welfare through teacher development programs and strategic initiatives like the Studentenkamer project.

Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers

One of the top priorities discussed during the meeting was the professional growth of teachers. Platform 1 emphasized the importance of encouraging educators to register for free courses offered by Land Academy Aruba, Matrix, and the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of South Carolina. These platforms provide teachers with opportunities for professional development, allowing them to gain valuable certifications and improve their skills.

By registering with these platforms, teachers can stay updated on best teaching practices, which contributes to the overall enhancement of education welfare in Aruba. Schools are urged to ensure teachers are connected with these digital resources to promote continuous learning and development.

The Studentenkamer project, set to launch on September 26, 2024, was another key topic. This initiative aims to support students who are pursuing advanced studies in the Netherlands or the United States. By providing essential guidance and resources, the project seeks to improve the overall welfare of students by preparing them for the challenges of studying abroad.

Additionally, the meeting addressed accounting protocols from the Audit Report’s Recommendation 10. The new protocol will come into effect in January 2025 and is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability in financial reporting within the education sector.
