Aruba National Health Survey Reveals Insights on Alcohol Consumption
In 2023, the Department of Public Health, in collaboration with WHO/PAHO and the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), conducted a National Health Survey known as STEPS 2023.
The goal of STEPS 2023 was to gather valuable information on the health of our community so that public health management organizations could gain a current perspective on the health of our population and understand the risk factors that can lead to chronic illnesses.
Identifying these risk factors will enable various organizations to develop targeted strategies aimed at improving the health of our people through new management approaches.
Regarding alcohol use, the STEPS 2023 National Survey concluded that 21% of Aruba’s population engages in excessive alcohol consumption.
Men tend to consume more alcohol, averaging 5.5 drinks per occasion compared to women who average 3.3 drinks per occasion.
Excessive alcohol use can lead to issues such as overweight, mental health problems, cancer, and affect organs like the heart, liver, and stomach.
With this information in hand, it is time for us to take steps towards better health and consider changing our habits. Are you ready to make a change for your health?
