Aruba’s Commitment to Strengthening the Fire Department
Aruba continues to prioritize investment in its Fire Department to ensure optimal performance and maintain international certification for airport safety. A recent information session, led by the Minister of Justice and Social Affairs, Rocco Tjon, discussed these key updates and future plans.
Enhancing the Aruba Fire Department
Continuous improvement of the Aruba Fire Department is essential for meeting both local and international safety standards. The government has allocated significant resources for the renovation of its fire stations and the acquisition of new equipment. Post Sierra in San Nicolas has already been renovated, while Post Oscar, located at the airport, is slated for renovation soon, with a budget of five million florins. This investment also includes four new fire trucks and necessary equipment, ensuring the firefighters can perform their duties safely and efficiently.
Organizational and Personnel Development
In addition to equipment, enhancing the Aruba Fire Department requires investment in its personnel and organizational structure. The government recently brought in Mark van Akken, who will collaborate with the fire department union and the firefighters for three months to develop a comprehensive improvement plan. This plan will focus on addressing personnel needs, upgrading infrastructure, and streamlining operations to fill vacancies quickly.
To ensure the long-term success of these efforts, Johannes de Haas has been appointed as the new fire department commander. His leadership will be crucial in implementing the improvement plan over the next two years, driving forward the department’s mission to safeguard Aruba’s citizens and meet international safety standards.
Strategic Investments for Airport Safety
One of the most critical aspects of the Aruba Fire Department investment is ensuring airport safety. With Post Oscar’s renovation and the procurement of advanced fire trucks, the fire department is on track to maintain its international airport safety certification. This certification is vital for both national security and Aruba’s standing in global air travel.
Leadership and Future Plans
The government’s decision to recruit Johannes de Haas as the new commander reflects their dedication to the continuous growth of the Aruba Fire Department. His focus will be on executing the improvement plan, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of the personnel and the community.
