Ombudsman Aruba introduces services to students

Ombudsman Aruba Launches Special Sessions for Students in the Netherlands

The Ombudsman Aruba is preparing to open its new office on December 1, 2025, and ahead of the launch, it is offering special sessions for Aruban students living in the Netherlands. These sessions aim to introduce the Ombudsman’s role, explain how students can access support, and encourage engagement with this new institution.

Purpose of the Special Student Sessions

The Ombudsman’s upcoming sessions aim to familiarize Aruban students in the Netherlands with the services available. According to Aruban law, any person can submit complaints to the Ombudsman, regardless of residence. Students will learn how to use these services to address concerns about government or institutional matters.

Connecting Students to the Ombudsman Office

On October 27, 2025, the first meeting will take place at Arubahuis, The Hague, featuring Mrs. Jurima Bryson, the Ombudsman, engaging directly with students. Participants will receive detailed guidance on submitting complaints and interacting with the Ombudsman for support.

Session Details and Registration

Students can attend one of two available sessions:

  • Session I: 17:20–18:20 (doors open 17:00–17:15)
  • Session II: 18:50–19:50 (doors open 18:30–18:45)

The sessions are free of charge, and students must register in advance using a QR code to complete the registration form on their mobile devices. This ensures that students secure a spot for their preferred session.

What Students Will Learn

Introduction to the Ombudsman Institution

The Ombudsman will present the new office and explain its core functions, legal framework, and available services. Students will understand how the Ombudsman serves as a neutral authority to handle complaints fairly.

How the Ombudsman Supports Students Abroad

The sessions clarify that all Aruban citizens, even those residing abroad, can submit complaints. This expands access to justice for students who are studying overseas and may need guidance on administrative or governmental issues.

Interactive Q&A and Community Engagement

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss real scenarios. This interaction helps them connect directly with the first Ombudsman of Aruba, fostering awareness and trust in the institution.

UNESCO upholds students’ rights to quality education, equality and freedom of expression as essential foundations for lifelong learning and personal development.

Attending these sessions allows students to:
