Wastewater Facility in Parkietenbos Restored for Sustainable Waste Management

The Parkietenbos wastewater facility is fully operational again, providing essential waste disposal services to businesses in Aruba. Septic tank operators can now conveniently discharge wastewater at Parkietenbos free of charge, eliminating the need to travel to Zeewijk (San Nicolas).

The Revival of Parkietenbos Wastewater Facility

The Parkietenbos wastewater treatment plant was reactivated under the supervision of Aruba Wastewater Sustainable Solutions (AWSS). This milestone marks a new era for waste management in Aruba. In March, the facility was shut down due to maintenance challenges that made it incapable of processing incoming waste effectively. With the government privatizing the facility and transferring its ownership to AWSS, operations have resumed efficiently.

Key Benefits of the Reopened Facility

1. Enhanced Convenience for Businesses

The restored facility offers businesses an accessible location to discharge wastewater without additional costs. This development saves time and resources for septic tank operators.

2. Improved Waste Processing

Equipped with upgraded technology, the Parkietenbos facility processes wastewater effectively while minimizing unpleasant odors. This advancement reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable waste management.

3. Faster Privatization Impact

The reopening is a direct result of privatization, as noted by interim Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes. She praised the quick turnaround and emphasized plans for the facility to achieve full operational capacity within the next one to two years.

Government and AWSS Collaboration

The collaborative efforts between the Aruba government and AWSS have been pivotal in this project. Interim Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes expressed gratitude to AWSS and its employees for their rapid and effective improvements to the previously deteriorated facility. “This is a commendable step toward sustainable waste management in Aruba,” she stated during the reopening ceremony.

Future Plans for Parkietenbos

The government and AWSS aim to ensure that the Parkietenbos wastewater facility operates at full capacity within two years. Planned investments include upgrading infrastructure and implementing advanced waste treatment solutions. This initiative aligns with Aruba’s broader goals of achieving sustainability in waste management.
