The Department of Education Aruba (DEA) has launched a comprehensive literacy training program in Papiamento for 2nd-grade primary school teachers. This training is part of a broader effort to integrate Papiamento into the primary education curriculum, beginning with 1st-grade students in the 2024-2025 school year.
Training Objectives and Methods
Development of Teaching Materials
Several training sessions are being conducted to develop teaching materials for Papiamento literacy. These sessions are led by the Institute for Pedagogical Assistance (IPA) and supported by DEA professionals. The training focuses on developing effective teaching resources and professionalizing teachers in the use of Papiamento. Workshops will take place at various school board facilities, including DPS and SKOA, until August 2025.

Minister of Education and Sport, Endy Croes, recently visited schools to observe the implementation of Papiamento in the curriculum. He expressed his admiration for the positive interaction between teachers and students.
