Enhancing Water Quality: Santa Rosa’s Battle Against Sushi Dumping

During the dry season, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (Santa Rosa) continues to monitor water availability. As previously reported, some reservoirs have low water levels, and delivery services are being adjusted to ensure customers receive adequate water supply, even if it’s from just one or two trucks.

Sushi Dumping Issues at Local Reservoirs

Recent inspections have revealed that individuals are illegally dumping sushi into local reservoirs. Despite years of efforts to educate the public about proper waste disposal, this problem persists. Notably, the Tanki Leendert and Hooiberg reservoirs have frequently been found contaminated with sushi waste.

Temporary Reservoir Closures and Community Impact

In response, Santa Rosa has decided to temporarily close some reservoirs to limit access and prevent further dumping. Unfortunately, some individuals have disregarded the closure and continued to dispose of sushi in these areas. This situation is frustrating for farmers who rely on clean water for their crops and livestock.

Alternative Disposal Solutions

The Department of Agriculture encourages residents to dispose of sushi waste responsibly. For those needing to discard sushi, consider using designated waste disposal services such as ECOTECH in Barcadera. This company accepts various types of waste, including sushi, and ensures proper disposal.
