Overview of Youth Participation in the Labor Market
Since 1999, the United Nations has observed August 12 as International Youth Day, focusing on the digital generation’s impact on economic and social progress. According to the latest figures from the 2023 Labor Force Survey, youth participation in the labor market has risen to 40.2%, up by 5.2% from the previous year. Despite this positive trend, the unemployment rate for young people remains at 11.1%, highlighting their vulnerability in economic downturns.
Impact of Digitalization on Youth and Sustainable Development
In honor of International Youth Day on August 12, 2024, the Department of Labor and Research (DAO) in Aruba has released updated data showcasing the involvement of young people in the labor market. This year’s theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” emphasizes the significant role of digital technology in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The survey also reports a decrease in the NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) rate to 7.8%, reflecting a slight improvement in youth engagement.
