Aruba Announces Awg. 130,00 Increase in Social Welfare for People with Disabilities

The Aruba government announces a social welfare increase of Awg. 130,00 for people with disabilities, effective July 2024, with retroactive payments.

Impact of the Increase on Beneficiaries

This welfare increase is part of a broader initiative by the government to support vulnerable groups, including retirees, civil servants, and various foundations, all of whom have benefited from the 2024 budget surplus.

Historical Context of Welfare Increases

This is only the fourth increase in welfare benefits for people with disabilities in Aruba’s history, following previous adjustments in 2004, 2007, and 2013. Beneficiaries will not only receive the increased amount in September but will also be compensated for the months of July and August 2024, ensuring they receive the full benefit of this change.

Implementation and Retroactive Payments

On August 5, 2024, the Ministry of Justice and Social Affairs of Aruba revealed a significant increase in social welfare benefits for people with disabilities. This change, driven by a budget surplus in 2024, will provide an additional Awg. 130,00 per month, bringing the total monthly welfare to 1080 florins. This increase will be applied retroactively from July 1, 2024.
